Rooted in Van Nuys Since July 4, 2019
Born on the Fourth of July: The Story Behind FryDay's Van Nuys Beginnings
Every brand has a birthday, but few get to say theirs falls on a national holiday. FryDay Food Truck was founded on July 4, 2019, in Van Nuys, California, by Theophilos "Theo" Okuribido. Here is a look at what that date means for us, and what it says about how we try to serve Los Angeles.
Where It Started: Van Nuys, July 4, 2019
FryDay began as a food truck in the San Fernando Valley with a simple idea: gourmet loaded fries, done with care. Our founder, Theo, set out to build something that felt warm, bold, and rooted in the neighborhoods around us. Since then the concept has grown to include a ghost kitchen, which lets us serve people beyond the places the truck can park on any given day.
Why a Holiday Birthday Feels Right
July 4 is a day built around gathering. Neighbors set up tables, friends bring food, and strangers share the same sidewalk to watch the same sky. Food is at the center of nearly every one of those gatherings. We cannot claim to have planned our brand around any grand symbolism, but we do think a date so tied to cookouts and community suits a business that spends its days feeding groups of people together.
What Has Stayed the Same
A lot has changed since 2019, but the core has not. We still believe a loaded fry should be handheld, shareable, and made with intention. We still lead with four signature flavors: Nashville Hot Chicken, Caribbean Jerk, Mango Habanero, and BBQ Bacon. And we still care about showing up for the people of Los Angeles, whether that is a private party, a corporate lunch, a school gathering, or a big public event.
Serving LA Crowds Large and Small
Over the years, FryDay has had the chance to serve at moments that mean a lot to Angelenos, including NBA All-Star Weekend, the LA Dodgers Divisional Playoffs, the BET Fan Experience, and LA Galaxy events, as well as work with UCLA and LAUSD. Each of those reminded us that a crowd is made of individual people who just want a good meal. That lesson shapes how we plan every event, big or small.
What We Hope You Get Out of a FryDay Moment
When you order from us, we hope you get more than food. We hope you get a sense that someone cared about the details: the flavor, the speed, the friendliness at the window. That is the standard we hold ourselves to, and the one we think a founding date on a day of community should inspire.
Celebrate With Us
Every year around July 4, we think about how far a single truck in Van Nuys has come, and we think about the people who helped along the way, customers, event hosts, and our crew. If you have ever stopped by the truck, ordered from our ghost kitchen, or booked us for a celebration of your own, you are part of the story.
Conclusion
FryDay is proud of its Los Angeles roots and proud of its Independence Day birthday. We are grateful to everyone who has helped us grow, and we look forward to many more celebrations.
