A Thanksgiving-Season Thank You From FryDay
A Thanksgiving-Season Thank You From FryDay: Gratitude for the Los Angeles Crowds, Schools, Teams, and Families Who Share Our Table
As November arrives, a lot of people in Los Angeles start thinking about gratitude, and so do we. FryDay began on July 4, 2019, in Van Nuys, with a food truck and a simple idea: make gourmet loaded fries that people would line up for. Since then, the truck and our ghost kitchen have been part of a lot of Los Angeles moments. This is a note of thanks to the communities that made that possible.
We are not going to list numbers or make big claims here. Gratitude is better when it is specific and honest. So here is what we are thankful for, in the order it comes to mind.
Thank You, Van Nuys
Every business has a starting place, and ours is Van Nuys. It is where FryDay got its start, where we learned how a truck works in the real world, and where neighbors gave us our first chances. Starting in the Valley shaped how we think about showing up. You park, you serve, you pay attention to the people in front of you, and you do it again the next day.
Founder Theophilos "Theo" Okuribido built FryDay on that approach, and it remains the heart of how we work.
Thank You to the Big Event Crowds
We have had the chance to serve crowds at events that Los Angeles cares about, including NBA All-Star Weekend, the LA Dodgers Divisional Playoffs, the BET Fan Experience, and LA Galaxy events. Each one taught us something different about feeding people who came to enjoy a moment. Big events are exciting, and they remind us that food is part of how people remember a day.
To everyone who stood in a line, waited patiently, and then shared a plate with a friend, thank you.
Thank You to the Schools and Campuses
We have also been welcomed at schools and campuses, including UCLA and events connected to LAUSD. Student and school communities bring a special kind of energy. There are fundraisers, celebrations, and long days that end with a snack. We are grateful to the teachers, organizers, and volunteers who plan these events and invite us to be part of them.
Thank You to the Families Who Book Us
Some of our favorite events are not famous at all. They are birthdays, graduations, quinceañeras, weddings, and backyard gatherings where a family wanted good food and a little less stress. Planning a celebration takes trust, and we do not take it lightly when you invite us in.
If you have booked FryDay for a private event or a corporate lunch, you have trusted us with a day that matters to you. Thank you.
Thank You to the Team
A food truck does not run on its own. It runs on people who prep early, drive carefully, handle tight spaces, and stay friendly when the line is long. Behind the window and in the kitchen, there is a team doing the work that makes every plate possible. Thank you for the early mornings, the careful setup, and the steady hospitality.
Thank You to Our Ghost Kitchen Customers
Not everyone catches us at a truck window. Many of you order through our ghost kitchen and enjoy FryDay at home or at the office. That is a different way to connect, and we appreciate it. Whether you try Nashville Hot Chicken, Caribbean Jerk, Mango Habanero, or BBQ Bacon, we are glad to be part of your meal.
Thank You to the Neighbors Who Say Hello
Some of the best moments at the window are small ones. A regular who remembers their favorite flavor, a neighbor who waves from across the lot, a stranger who asks what we recommend and then comes back the next week. Those moments do not show up in any announcement, but they are a big part of why we love doing this work in Los Angeles. A city this large can feel anonymous, and a food truck is a small, friendly reminder that it does not have to.
Thank You for Telling Your Friends
Most food trucks grow because somebody tells somebody else. If you have ever recommended FryDay to a coworker, shared a photo of a plate, or suggested us for a friend's party, you helped us in a way no advertisement could. We notice it, and we are thankful for it.
What We Keep Learning
The more we serve, the more we notice how simple the lessons are. Show up on time. Keep the line moving. Be kind to the person at the window, because they might be having a long day. Treat every event like it matters, because to the host, it does.
We also keep learning that food is a good reason to gather. A plate of loaded fries does not solve anything on its own, but it gives people something to share, and sharing is where good moments start.
A Simple Thanksgiving Wish
As the holiday season approaches, we hope you spend time with people you care about. If food helps bring them to the table, even better. If you are planning a holiday gathering, a team celebration, or a family event and want help feeding the crowd, we would be glad to talk.
Thank you for being part of the FryDay story. Happy Thanksgiving season from all of us.
